The Talented Blonde can’t get enough Burberry. Despite the FNM FRE drama this week, the GM dividend suspension and quite frankly a gloomy market, Burberry Group PLC (BRBY) was one bright spot today in a sea of market turmoil. One thing I noticed about Burberry a while back was this Bondage trend. Spikes. Corsets. Studs-oh my! Christopher Bailey–the brands uber designer, has taken a once staid British trench coat outfitter, and evolved it into a differentiated outre fashion house that is defying the global market slowdown. Ok–so you know I wrote about the Sex and the City Index . . . Now I’m seeing some parallels with Gossip Girl. The CW network is taking much more advantage of this marketing and merchandising opportunity with teens and tweens than HBO ever did with 30-somethings. Brilliant! in the City that is! Ok–I broke down and went to see SATC since it’s like freaking pouring in the country this weekend. Gotta tell ya, bad reviews or not, this film is making $$$$$. Hell, I wanted to see it just for the wardrobe. MY guess is, women all over the country will too. Let’s face it–not a lot of catalysts in fashion since the show ended. Women are starved, if not to sit with their friends after many cocktails in a dark theatre and watch 4 other women bitch about men in FABULOUS shoes. I predict a weekend open over $40 MM.-TB
